Now I want to set up a Linux install with a rewritable DVD drive utilized as a swap partition. It would be slow as fuck, but you could actually use DVD-RAM as RAM.

DVD RAM had finite writes. They claimed you could get "as many as 100,000 rewrite cycles". It would work for a little while as a swap, but would fail pretty soon.

Right, so you're saying we need to setup our RAM with RAID to write to multiple DVDs and be able to recover when one fails while you're hot-swapping another DVD into bay 4.

I mean, with striping, we'd have basically any amount of RAM we want! There's basically no downsides!
