I'm wondering if Collins had the best of both worlds (ha!) by being celebrated in all the main events around the moon landing, but just enough obscurity to be able to walk into a restaurant to eat a burger without being swarmed by fans. Everyone knew
GlennAldrin and Armstrong. After the return to Earth I wonder if they were ever able to live lives with any level of privacy.edit: fixed the right Apollo 11 astronaut

I know you’re using John Glenn as an example of being famous for being an astronaut, but just making sure we’re all on the same page that he was not part Apollo 11.

I don't know who downvoted you. You're right of course. I corrected my post.

Glenn was a superstar, your point was still very much valid.

Neil really didn't like the limelight.
He wasn't a recluse like he's often been painted, he just wasn't comfortable being in the limelight all the time.
He was an engineer and a scholar - he went to being a professor just a couple years after the landing.
The man was freakin' brilliant. Listen to him talk about Apollo in 2007 in this video.
