Which sounds suspiciously correct and would mean I've been saying it wrong for literally decades. C'est la vie.

We were talking Linux package managers in the office at lunchtime (because that's the kind of cool people we are) and one colleague repeatedly referred to the standard Debian/Ubuntu package manager as A P T (i.e. pronounced "eh pee tee").

I've always called it "apt" pronounced like the word.

So, should it be pronounced:

The postie has just knocked on the door to deliver a parcel. He is (of course) wearing short trousers.

I have a digital thermometer on the outside of the house. It says the temperature right now is minus 1.2° C.

I don't like Brussels sprouts. I know I don't like sprouts because every Christmas when I was a child my mum would cook them, and I'd dutifully put a couple into my mouth and go bleeeuurrgh.

So you can imagine how delighted I wasn't when my regular veg box delivery came with 500g of sprouts this week.

But I decided to be a big brave boy and give them another go. And you know what, if you don't boil the little cabbagey fuckers to complete mush they're actually not bad at all. So much so that I've just cooked a few more to add to tonight's stir fry.

Sorry mum, turns out it is just your cooking after all.
