What would cause multiple ignition coils to fail?
-
So my entire turbo saga started with a misfire from a bad ignition coil. Then I had another one a couple months ago.
So I bought a four pack just to keep in my car in case it happened again, and it did. Luckily swapping them out takes no time but it would be nice to know what could be burning them out so quickly.

I'm not a VW specific person, but generally what is the failure mode of the nonworking ignition coils:
- is it open or short circuit on the primary winding?
- is it open or short circuit on the secondary winding?
- is it a failure of insulation so you're losing current to the block or surrounding structures?
