I am disabled and cannot learn to make art like others, therefore I use AI to portray my emotions and creativity in a way that I would never be able to otherwise.
Nor can I afford to hire a real artist because the only income I have, is disability payments.
When you call my work "slop", you're also calling my emotions "slop".
That's horrendous and shows how short sighted people are in regards to these things.

@BeAware It's not about you, though. (and i don't mean this as an attack on you or anything) That's how you're interpreting it and I disagree. It's not about you at all.
Have you seen the Last Week Tonight episode where John Oliver spends an entire episode talking about "AI slop"? (here's a bit about it). If not, it's right here.
This has nothing to do with your specific use of AI. It's more about how it is used, not all uses of it. If people can't make that distinction, that's their problem, not yours.
Here's a better question: Why would you think the term applies to you when you know you aren't using it that way?
(at least, when I refer to something as "AI slop", I know exactly what I mean, and the definition doesn't include you)

@alex the fact is, when they reply directly to my posts, it DEFINITELY is about me.
️
I was slightly more generalizing than I should have. I mostly mean when it's directed at me, in my replies. That's my mistake for not making that more clear.

@BeAware Fair.
Edit: But they're making it about you when it's about them twisting the meaning (or not taking context into account). That's still their problem.

@BeAware Thank you for sharing this! I'm fascinated to hear that you're able to use AI to portray your emotions. How do you do that? Is it in how you shape the prompt you give it?

@SorinaHiggins exactly!
My mind is pretty good at making short rhymes and such and I'll write a short rhyme about how I'm feeling and some words like "happy art" or "sad art" or just the style of art I'm feeling in the moment and usually run the prompt a few different times until I get something that I enjoy.

Here's a few of my most emotional images.

@alex it's usually about how it's trained on stolen data. At least that's the hate that gets thrown at me. They ask why I can't hire a real artist and all that. It's not about how I'm using it, it's that I'm using it at all.

"With what? Do I look rich to you? If you're so concerned about this, why don't you send me the money to do it?" /s
(is exactly the response that was in my head)
it's really none of their damned business. I know a thing or three about overly critical people. There was one in my family. They're insecure people looking for a fight, usually, and they make it everyone else's problem.
that's why i say it has nothing to do with you
because it doesn't
it has everything to do with them. -

@BeAware I can’t speak for others, but I’ve always interpreted the phrase to mean slop that happens to be AI generated. Not all AI generated content is slop and not all slop is AI generated.
There’s no denying that there is a lot of “slop” out there now that happens to be AI generated, and people rightfully dislike slop.
However, there’s also some great, very artistic, and very valuable AI assisted content out there as well. Some of the best is probably not even instantly recognizable as AI generated.

@kjg yeah...I generalized a bit more than I intended. I moreso meant the people that directly come into my replies and call my AI stuff slop.
In my experience, they aren't mad at how it's used or the context, they're mad about how it's trained and even though I cannot change that, they take it out on me.

@BeAware ugh. That’s terrible that people do that to you. The black and white thinking that some people show is so unhelpful and makes is next to impossible to have a productive conversation.
