A 27-year-old woman presents to the clinic complaining of slurred speech and difficulty moving her tongue. On examination, when she protrudes her tongue, it deviates to the left side. There is no facial weakness, and the rest of the cranial nerve exam is normal.

Which of the following is the most likely site of the lesion?

    A) Left hypoglossal nerve
    B) Right hypoglossal nerve
    C) Left facial nerve
    D) Right vagus nerve
    E) Left glossopharyngeal nerve
