i have zero evidence but the far right opposition leader of Venezuela receiving the nobel peace prize must be some sort of psyop

@ErikUden you clearly know nothing about María Corina Machado. she's not my favorite person ideologically, but she's put herself and her family at serious risk for two decades defending democracy. she's done the work, at great personal cost. hand-waving her as a "far right opposition leader" is just ignorant.

@peter what I know about her is the support of Javier Milei, privatization, Netanjahu, U.S. etc., also supporting the recent attacks on boats. I don't know her well, sure, but I also don't think her work for “democracy” outweighs the kind of democracy she's interested in. Opposing a dictatorship is good, but you're not doing a good job if the alternative you're proposing is a dictatorship with extra steps.

@ErikUden politics isn't fantasy football, and you know absolutely nothing about the kind of work she's done for democracy. don't have bad opinions if you don't have to.

@fabyk @ErikUden it's always interesting how leftists come charging out of the woodwork to give a take on Venezuela when someone they don't like wins the (meaningless) Nobel Peace Prize but no one wants to talk about why thousands of Venezuelans **walk across the Darién Gap** every year. it's all a game to you. enjoy your internet points.

@peter @fabyk @ErikUden
they would't have given a shit about #Machado or #Venezuela if she didn't say anything about #trump.It's self-centered imperialistic thought, typical of the left of Western countries, where everything that does happen in the "periphery/colonies" is interpreted through the lens of the political struggles of the "metropole", where they live and prosper.

@elCelio that's not imperialist thought, but materialist reality. Western nations did coup and do influence nations like Venezuela heavily. If the United States bombs Venezuelan ships, then we do not simply view their struggle through a western lense, but see the reality of it being influenced by the west.
It's not self-centered to acknowledge the reality of what our foreign policies of our western nations do to the global south. Or did you think it has no effect?
