The ONE time I don't use a VPN to download the OG version of GTA San Andreas, because it's not available to legitimately purchase anymore, they shut my internet off.🙄

Remember folks, if you're not bowing down to billionaires, use a VPN.

Direct downloads are your friend.
Also, where the fuck are you at that your ISP shuts your internet down over one of those copyright infringement emails? Especially on first offense?
At least in the US, your ISP just forwards the email to the email address on file and lets you deal with it. Long as you're paying them they don't really care.

@wizardbeard I'm in this fresh hell of Louisiana.
I haven't done direct downloads since like 2010 and back then, it had to be broken up into 56,832 parts, each with a different link to download and I ain't about to go back to that if that's still how it is.
I might need a crash course in direct download piracy in 2025 if things are better now.🤭

Looks like you're posting on mastodon and I'm replying from lemmy. The biggest piracy community here on lemmy has this wiki that might help: https://wiki.dbzer0.com/piracy/

@BeAware I always thought it was a "three strikes and you're out" rule or something. Also, I've somehow never seen one of these notices. Even for that month-or-so where my new VPN wasn't actually VPN'ing like I thought.

@RxBrad Apparently mine likes to use it as a business deal. They reactivated me and said "this time it's free, but if it happens again, it's $20 for each subsequent reactivation"
Even when they sent the email 2 weeks ago, I rolled my eyes and barely read it. Now that I re-opened it, it actually says that NO action would be taken against my account.
That was a lie.
