The majority of gout is based on fructose consumption, not purines. Uric acid by itself is actually an anti-inflammatory in the body, it is only when the body is dysfunctional through metabolic problems, specifically high fructose levels, that one of the hallmarks of gout is high uric acid, that's not normal. The amount of uric acid the body can produce on its own is much higher than the amount that can be consumed, avoiding purine rich foods when you're having a gout attack helps a little bit, but it is not the cause, and it is not the solution, it's just symptom management So a zero carbohydrate diet, carnivore, avoids all of the issues with metabolic dysfunction, avoids, fructose, avoids glycation end products in joints.. it is not the environment that gout exists in. People with gout who use carnivore to treat the gout often report marked improvements rapidly. Update: I should add gout is also causally linked to alcohol. alcohol and fructose have very similar metabolism pathways in the liver.

I have never known anyone to associate Windows with a high performance Bugatti Veyron car. People don't choose Windows for speed, they choose it because its well known so it has a favorable learning curve for users to operate, has high compatibility with software & hardware available to consumers, and is generally inexpensive to buy.

Gotcha, you're talking about a system that gives you unemployment benefits. Even without your able to report it there, they are still aware you're unemployed. If you were employed, the state would be receiving quarterly income tax withholding from your employer as well as FICA contributions at the federal level. You've also filed your taxes for 2024, and they see that the only earnings you had were prior to your employment ended.

I've found it very useful as a tool to gather references from talks that don't cite claims... It's like a super search for context. I would never use a LLM to provide logic or reason, and sadly I think many people do.

I have no data for this, so i'm just speculating wildly (and accepting this will be a unpopular conjecture): Lemmas - Things I have data for Metabolic dysfunction is endemic in the population (96% westerners) Metabolic dysfunction impacts hormones, especially sex hormones Aromatase happens at elevated levels in metabolically compromised people This can manifest as man-boobs, love-handles, chin hair, etc Metabolic dysfunction is principally caused by diet. Speculation - Things I have no data for There is probably some connection between sexuality and hormones There is probably some connection between sexuality and life-long diets This means there might be a interesting correlation you could discover. However, I don't think anyone would fund this type of research, or publish it - it would cause controversy needlessly. Seeing a population prefer vegetables doesn't speak to cause and effect, it could be a cultural appreciation for being healthy and vegetables are mostly seen as healthy by most groups.

There are tradeoffs, but the biggest downside is it down regulates testosterone production in the body, and all the sexual side effects of not producing natural testosterone. I think it's a valuable tool, but it's not a panacea, and needs to be closely supervised by a endocrinologist.

If I think the content is a net positive for Lemmy you get a upvote, even if I disagree, even if I don't like you. So that means even if someone later reveals themselves to be an asshat, they are still adding to Lemmy's ecosystem and get to keep their upvotes. Update: but I'm not a saint, if someone is downvoting me I'll downvote them right back

low blood sugar - hypoglycemia is of concern for people who are not fat adapted, and it speaks problems with insulin function either from t1d or insulin resistance. The best way to avoid low blood sugar, is to avoid eating sugar, so that the body can have a very flat regulation of blood glucose high protein - I've seen no benefit to eating high protein documented anywhere. In fact carnivore is not a high protein diet, its a high fat diet, with adequate protein. The protein targets for a healthy adult do not change based on their diet, they need the same amount of bioavailable protein on SAD, Mediterranean, vegan, keto, or carnivore. As far as any deleterious effects, you would be missing nutrition from fat, but I'm not aware of any actual downsides either. Yes, A first step for everyone should be to eat less processed foods and exercise - totally agreed. I was initially responding to the person above to said keto/carnivore were crackpot pseudo science bs.
